Adventure #2 - on the road again

Work has been in a lull, and I am getting stir crazy. Haven't worked in almost three weeks, and potentially not getting work for another 3 to 4 weeks has given me a great wake up call.  And it is screaming "Why are you wasting time! Get back out there!"

So made a call to my friend Steve who is working down in New Mexico and arranged to drive down and meet him and spend a few days hanging out with him & his dogs. Will be a good way to start this next mini adventure.

Packing up has been a lot easier this time.   I already know what is needed most and what can be left behind.  That giant compression bag full of yarn? Not going along this time. I was so convinced I would be knitting in my campsites during the evenings, and in reality I only knitted twice in all the months I was out there. Out with the yarn!

Only a few hick ups so far. 

1. I CAN'T FIND MY SLEEPING BAG!!! How does such a critical item just up and disappear? I have found all three of my leaky sleep pads that need to be repaired or discarded, and I have no recollection of where I may have put the bag. Frustrating! I will keep tearing the house apart today in hopes of finding it. If I can't  find it, I will need to spend time digging through my storage looking for a replacement. I am really  hoping to not have to drop $120 on a  new one.
2. It was beautiful weather yesterday and I enjoyed my sunroof. Then I left the sunroof open and it has been raining most of the night. The inside of my car and the stuff I had already packed in my back seat are soaked.  LOL! It is NOT snow, and I am thankful for that. I am heading to  the desert in less than 48 hours, so it will be dried out soon.
3. Part of this next two months will include a trip overseas with Russ.  Planning a trip within a trip is a bit more challenging, but I think I got things  covered.

I had a wonderful dinner last night with my family and a neighbor.  Was great to get every one together and laugh and talk for a few hours. Will carry that happy feeling with me out onto the road.
Looking forward to this next round of adventure! Hoping to visit 4 National Parks and three countries over the next two months.

The second most popular stop in Olympic in the Hoh rainforest.  Not much for trails, only about 2.5 total unless you were leaving for the back country.  Lots of people.  Personally,  I thought Sol Duc was nicer and showed better examples of rainforest life. Ended up being a relaxation day.  Catching up on blogs and reading by the river.  Was so nice to have sun and warm weather after Mora, I slept with the canopy off.  Crazy bright moon that was amazing and lots of stars.  Woke up a little damp, but nothing like Mora.

Corpus Christi, TX

It has been an amazing week here with Cindy.  I am thankful that even tho we grew apart for several years we were able to reconnect and keep our friendship going.  She has really spoiled me with wonderful home cooked meals, and even let me take over the kitchen one night for me to make home made coconut shrimp. Yum! My first day here, I went out to Mustang Island park too see if the campground was open. No luck, they are still recovering from hurricane damage that happened last August.  I also went down to the National Seashore on Padre. Got lots of good informatioon on beach camping, but was warned that by next week there would be a lot of people around for spring break. It was a nice day on my own exploring the beach and enjoying a little down time.  Such a difference from Big Bend.   Cindy worked out to have a little extra time off work, so we hit the road.  One day went to the aquarium and explored down there and the next she took me out to an isl...

Joshua Tree NP

The north part of the park is so amazing with all the rock formations and climbing routes. Took the rangers advice and summited Ryan Mountain.  Great views of the entire area.  Felt like standing in top of the world! Another nice warm night in the desert.  I am sleeping so much better with out the cold making me bundle up.  Cold feet keep me up at night! I am starting to realize that I am feeling a little burned out.   I am not appreciating this park the way I should be.  I think it is time to head home and take a rest.  Will sit down and plan out a route and see what is between here and home.
