North coast of Ireland

Image
After flying back from London, we headed to the north coast to pick up our last three touristy spots.  The first was a suspension  bridge over a gap. Can't wait to show you the video.  It is called Carrick a Rede.  Lot of fun and not too many people so we got a lot of nice pictures and videos on the bridge.  Pretty spot. Not too far down the road was the Giants Causeway.  A lot of traditional stories about a giant named Finn and how he built up the area.  The hexagonal lava formations (think of Devils Tower but the columns are only 18" instead of 20 feet) cover a nice bit of area.  At the very end we got chased away by a downpour, so headed back to the visitor center. Then off to Bushmills, one of the larger whiskey distilleries here.  Bought a little sample pack to bring back and share. This is our last day of vacation.  Having one last black pudding and we are off to the airport soon.  Great trip!

Wow! Like all of the Smithsonian museums rolled into one! Another 6 hours on our feet and we still didn't  come close to seeing it all.  Very impressed, and the size of some of the installations were huge!

Imperial War Museum

WOW! What a place.  We finally threw in the towel after 6 hours.  And we still didn't  see it all! WWI displays were really well done.  There is so much information here.  And crazy amounts of film footage, one area had a film loop that was 75 minutes long.  WWII was very good also. And the items were one of a kind.  Even one of the small boats that helped in Dunkirk. Really good coverage about different areas the war was being fought in. Spy area (MI5 and MI6) had tons of cool espionage stuff. The Holocaust area was brutal.  Makes you realize that a lot of stuff was censored for the US museum in DC. There were a lot more areas covering more current conflicts,  it by that time my brain was saturated and my feet exhausted.

Tower of London & Tower Bridge

Awesome day! The two things I was really looking forward to on the trip.  So much history at the tower, and seeing the crown jewels is amazing.  Finally got to go up into Tower Bridge, they installed glass flooring in the upper walkway, what a trip!

Just a couple of quick pics before heading to bed. Did the city bus tour today, so saw a ton of stuff. Crown jewels tomorrow!

Dingle Peninsula

Quick post before the High King concert. Did the Dingle peninsula today. Cold and rainy, but  beautiful.  Hit the beach for a bit, some good ruins and an amazing fish chowder to warm us up after.  High Kings is an Irish band we have been listening to while driving around the island.  Should be a good show.  Very nice venue with tables and chairs.  Sitting in the second set of tables from the stage. WOW! great seats!

Ring of Kerry

Great day! Lots of coastline and lots of mountains 💜💜💜 Started out on the ring this morning.  Followed the coastline around the peninsula and then out to a small island for the light house and a little tide pool time.  Russ enjoyed that adventure, and I found a pretty little snail shell to bring back with me.  Next was to the chocolate shop out on the point.  There was a nice beach nearby, so we stopped there for our picnic lunch. Local fresh smoked salmon, fresh bread and a local gruyere cheese. Yummy! Prettiest lunch spot ever! Then back to the mountains.  I talked Russ into driving one of the teeny little roads through a pass and a gap. Very beautiful! I enjoyed it more than him, since I wasn't driving! Lots of white knuckle moments and most of the road was one lane, making it tricky when you met a car coming from the other direction. Russ did great!  Stopped at a Whisky Bar restaurant for dinner.  Doing my best to get the ...
