Yosemite part 1
From Lassen, I ended up camping on the northwest side of Lake Tahoe. Nice little campground and I ended up talking to three groups of campers. All very nice and had advice on what I should see on my way back home. Yup. I am feeling homesick.
I came in the east gate of Yosemite and camped up in the meadows the first night. I had forgotten this area is famous for their bears that break into cars. It was a hefty fine for leaving food, soaps or other items with odor in your vehicle, so I spent about an hour and a half rearranging things in my car, so all those items were easy to carry to the bear box. I felt a little frustrated, but understood the problem.
Lots of historical stuff up in the meadows. Checked out the soda springs, some old cabins and an old bridge. Cool stuff and spent about a half hour talking to a couple and enjoying their company. Watched some climbers for a while. Made me wonder if I would ever do something like that. Probably not, I am getting too old to sleep on a cliff.
The ranger talk that night was interesting. More about how being in the park made you feel, not informative or facts based at all. Interesting talk, and he built a great big fire that I warmed up next to and then hustled back to my campsite and jumped in bed. It is getting cold up here in the mountains!
Some of the campgrounds were already closing for the season, so I have limited options for camping. My best choice for tomorrow night is 25 slow, windy miles from the Valley. Oh, well. Will make the best of it.
