Dungeness Spit SP

With the smoke coming down from Canada this week, conditions were not ideal to head up to Hurricane Ridge for a panoramic view of the peaks.  So, I opted to head out to one of the state parks and check out the light house I had been told about.
My legs were pretty sore from the summit hike, so I went down to the Spit to find out how far it was to the lighthouse.  It was an 11 miles roundtrip, and the tides were high, so it was recommended that I find something else to do that day, and come back early in the morning for low tide.  So, I learned how to read tide charts and planned things out.  I headed back into Sequim and got a little shopping done.  I also noticed there were tons of lavender farms nearby, so I stopped in for a tour.  I learned a lot!

I started out to the lighthouse at 5:45 am the next morning.  Was hoping for a good sunrise,  but with all the smoke there was not a lot to see.  The sun was a neat red through the smoke, but I had really hoped to see Mt. Baker.
I was the first to arrive at the lighthouse,  and was kindly rewarded by the caretakers with a nice cup of coffee.  After resting and chatting for a bit, I climbed to the top of the lighthouse for some views.  One of the care takers was playing his ukulele at the top, and he played me a song.  What a treat!

A local guy and I hit it off while hanging around the grounds, so we decided to hike back to the main land together.  Interesting guy and I learned a lot about beach hiking and camping from him.
