A week in Crested Butte
I arrived in Crested Butte and hit the visitor center first. While there, I asked if they had a hostel in town. They did! Which made me happy because I could really use a shower and a bed for a night.
Since it is early in their summer season, the hostel had weird staffing hours and while I could call and pay for my bunk room, there was no one to let me in. I would have to wait for 4 hours until someone would be at the front desk. Frustrating, since I had planned on getting work done that afternoon. I noticed a laundromat next door, so decided to make use of my time cleaning clothes. After that, I wandered around town and found a place to sit and have a beer and some nachos for an early dinner.
Once I got settled in, I realized what a nice facility it was, and quit whining to myself that it was more than twice what the hostel in Moab has cost me. Since Crested Butte is known for its downhill mountain biking, I expected there would be a lot of people there. Turns out I was two weeks early for opening season, so the hostel only had about 4-6 people there most days.
Since it was so quiet and nice, I started adding days on to my stay and catching up on work. I typically worked about half a day, then went out to explore the rest of the day. Feels good to be caught up on work.
So, I ended up meeting some nice locals, and a couple of young guys who were spending the summer working for the resorts. All good people.
A lot of the trails were snowed in or swamped with snow melt, so not so much hiking this week, but that is ok. I think my body needed some recovery time. My knee and feet were really bothering me after I did a 7 mile hike on Wednesday.
